I cannot put this book down! Best Collection of Organic Cleaning Recipes and Advice ANYWHERE–HANDS DOWN!
I cannot put this book down; in fact I should be cleaning right now- but I had to let the WORLD KNOW how great you will feel inside if you start using the valuable advice given inside this book. It’s not only valuable, it’s also CHEAP! The cleaning recipes are from things you most likely own or can buy for a few dollars, and will last for a long time. More importantly, they are SAFE, they WORK, they are ORGANIC, and I like the fact that most of them SMELL GOOD. That last one is a choice by the user, however. Becky has solutions for everything you can think of and some I wish I had known a long time ago. For those of us who are cleaning challenged, she not offers non-toxic cleaning recipes for everything imaginable, but also includes a variety of cleaning routine checklists. “The Organically Clean Home” is a must have, not on my bookshelf, but in my hands!

I noticed that these recipes do a better job than the chemical cleaners
I am honestly surprised with how well these recipes work. I had checked this book out from my local library and started using the recipes right away. I decided to purchase because I was impressed with the recipes, the reference information at the front of the book, and wanted to have this book on hand. I have used chemical cleaners but my daughters are at the age where they want to help me clean and we recently acquired a new puppy. I didn’t want them to ingest or breathe in the cleaners. Right off, I noticed that these recipes do a better job than the chemical cleaners. The author includes quite a bit of information on the products used (vinegar, essential oils, baking soda, microfiber towels, etc.) and why they work. I found the essential oil chart especialy valuable. I have hard water, and I found that I could still have really clean surfaces with these cleaners. IMHO, it appears that chemical cleaners leave a residue behind. But with these cleaning recipes that does not happen. I also like how time is very effective for cleaning. Some of these recipes tell you to put the cleaner on your desired surface and let it sit for a certain amount of minutes. It is nice to let the cleaner sit and then come back and all I have to is wipe. Also there was a bit of trial and error to see which recipes worked for me. And because of this, I’m beginning to truly understand the power of simple household ingredients.

Easy and pretty effective recipes, reasonably priced upkeep
My husband and I have been using this book for a few months. Following the instructions, we are slowly starting to get down some sort of routine for regular cleaning, as we hope to get our act together before our baby arrives in May. It’s not to the letter, but if we can do half the cleaning the author prescribes in a week, we’re light years in the right direction! With three cats at home, we are very concerned with keeping things clean but also eco-friendly and non-toxic. I saw this book online and had to try it, and I am not disappointed! Almost every recipe we tried this far has been effective and pretty cheap to employ. It does take a bit of money to get started because if you want to do it properly you want to get most of the materials you know you will use a lot together ahead of time, but since we spent $100 or so getting our stuff together, we have barely spent a dime. No joke. I’m pretty sure the amount of laundry detergent I’m not buying has already paid for everything: we made a huge batch of powdered laundry detergent and have been using it for months!!We’ve tried laundry detergent, bathroom cleaning, kitchen and floor recipes. All of them have been very effective and cheap to make. The only one that hasn’t worked for us was the powdered dishwasher recipe. All my dishes got spotty & caked with white stuff, no matter how we tried to adjust the recipe and use vinegar as a rinse agent. We may try again later with the liquid version, but for now we’re sticking to good old Cascade tablets until we are comfortable with a new solution.I took away a star for this book for only a few small reasons. For one, the issue with the dishwasher recipe. Second, the fact that almost half the recipes are some sort of lemon and clove. You can obviously switch out the essential oils as you please, which the author points out, but I just thought it was a little strange that almost all of them were basically one scent. Lastly, the cleaning schedules / checklists were a little daunting. For someone trying to get a fresh start, I was rather overwhelmed with the amount of cleaning she suggested I do, and still am. To the authors credit, though, she has a variety of checklists/schedules that hopefully will work for a variety of people, and may one day work for me if I choose the right one. She has an accompanying website with really neat printable stuff to help keep you on track. I particularly like the monthly calendars that line up everything I need to do in a month, or as an alternative, simple weekly reminder slips for the fridge to do the 5 golden tasks per day with space to write in other reminders.Happy cleaning!

This book is a refreshing take on keeping your home clean. The author talks about cleaning schedules, offering lots of suggestions, and including forms you can use to keep track of your efforts and make cleaning more of a habit. The recipes for cleaning products are very good. I’ve tried several of them and all were very effective. I would say that this book makes cleaning fun. And healthier than chemical cleaning.

Due to the fact that my favourite organic, non-toxic and allergy-friendly cleaner is now difficult (and expensive) to obtain, I’ve decided to start making my own cleaning products and ordered ‘The Organically Clean Home’ from Amazon after watching a YouTube video recommending it. It’s packed full of ideas and gives step-by-step instructions for making a variety of homemade cleaning products using, for example, white vinegar, vodka, rubbing alcohol, bicarbonate of soda, Castile soap and essential oils. I was pleased to see that Ms Rapinchuk recommended using either distilled water (or, as a cheaper option, cooled boiled water) to keep the products as uncontaminated as possible and I particularly liked how the author explained the reasons as to why certain ingredients were used and also gave alternatives for those who might have particular sensitivities. I’ve made the Tea Tree and Orange Disinfecting Cleaner, Lavender and Lemon Bathroom Disinfecting Spray, Peppermint Window and Mirror Cleaner, and Lemon and Lavender Fabric Softener. I might just go mad and start making my own washing powder (Lemon and Lavender to match the fabric softener) and even loo cleaner (Lemon and Peppermint Loo Cleaning Treatment) – and just in case you might be thinking that I don’t have a life, these products take very little effort and time to make 🙂 They also work well and they won’t harm the user or the planet – oh, and they smell delicious. Lemon and Clove Scrubbing Sauce anyone?5 Stars.

A conseiller mesdames!
