White, whiter, whitest?
I have used the Sparx tooth whitening system for 8 applications. For reference, I have used Crest tooth whitening strips in the past. Those peroxide strip applicators were relatively easy to use, seemed to work, but often left me with some tooth discomfort (temporary sensitivity to temperature) which can occur with tooth whiteners.LED + peroxide gel combos seem to have a mixed response from the dental profession, even from those that use lighting activation during office visits. I would guess some of that is based on the variety of stains dentists might observe in normal patients and how effective a given treatment might be towards those stains.Onto Sparx! After a couple of gel brushings, for which I start salivating (diluting the gel), I changed course. I slathered some of the gel into the tray, along with a quick painting of my teeth, in order to get things done a bit quicker. I was careful to avoid getting gel up on my gums, and did not experience any pain or tissue bleaching that can happen with peroxide. The brush applicator is a disposable twist-type syringe that is relatively easy to use. Each tube (three provided) lasts 4-5 applications for me, just treating front teeth with some âslatherâ, so the whole kit should provide 2-3 weeks of treatments.Once you have applied the gel you put the tray into your mouth and turn on the light. The first setting is blue light, the second red+blue. It is not clear what the actual treatment wavelength range may be, but presumably it is in some uV range. The instructions and website are less informative about which LED option is better. Blue is timed at 15 minutes. Red+blue at 10 minutes. During treatment you can feel the peroxide bubbling from exposure to the light. It feels like pop-rocks! The timer beeps and the light goes off. A quick rinse of the tray and you are done. The charge on the LED tray lasts two sessions. The USB to proprietary connecting cable is provided but you provide the actual wall charger.Eight sessions. No temporary sensitivity experienced during or after each session. I think it is working.I had a professional cleaning in the past month, but have not used whitening agents for a couple of years (too much tooth discomfort). For the pictures, I am using a Pixel 6 with the same lighting each time. I do not have control over the white balance, which can influence how âwarmâ (re: more yellow) the images appear. My front teeth are not bright white, but do seem to fall in between the 1 and 2 tooth chart color provided with the Sparx. My impression is that my teeth do appear whiter after 8 applications. It is a bit subjective. Peroxide is an established whitening agent, and again, depending on the condition of your teeth, it should work with proper application.Years ago, a dental tech gave me some good advice. If you drink coffee, tea, wine, or carbonated drinks (especially the very acidic ones like colas), you should always rinse your mouth out a couple of times after finishing your beverage. For me, morning coffee consumption was the primary source of teeth discoloration, but since I started practicing the rinse, they do stay whiter in between cleanings. I think some regular use of the Sparx LED Whitening System will also help. I plan on continuing to use it.

High quality, but the instructions fall short
Opening up this product, everything about it seems very luxe and high quality. The box is slick and sturdy, and everything is efficiently and attractively stored inside. I will be storing all of the pieces inside the box between treatments. The mouthpiece itself is small, soft and lightweight. My only previous experience with whitening systems has been using strips, and those were torturous – they were uncomfortable, took forever and every moment with them in my mouth was a drooling disaster. This product is a VERY sharp contrast. I actually forget it’s in my mouth and can easily work on other tasks while I do a treatment. According to the box it can also be used in the shower, which I haven’t tried yet but sounds super convenient and I love that it’s an option.Use is very simple – you just pull out one of the gel pens, turn the knob on the bottom until the gel wets the brush (it only turns one way and makes a metallic click sound with each turn – it took me quite a few turns to get it to flow initially, just keep clicking til it does). Then you paint it on your teeth, put the mouth piece in and turn it on. There are two settings, the first one is 15 minutes and the second is 10. You don’t need a timer because it will automatically shut off when it’s done. Once it turns off, rinse mouth and the mouthpiece and that’s it!Unfortunately, this very simple process is really all you get out of the instructions provided. It doesn’t tell me anything about what is different between the 10 and 15 minute settings – is there any advantage to the longer one? There must be, otherwise why wouldn’t I just use the 10 minute treatment every time. SHOULD I just use the 10 minute one? I have no idea. Furthermore, how often should I be doing this whole deal? Should I treat once per day? Once per week? Every other day? Again, I have no idea because the instructions don’t say.In short I absolutely love this system, it feels like a great tool and value for the money, but the instructions really fall short. What good is a product if you’re not sure how to use it? Hopefully this is something they will, at the very least, address in the sale listing – otherwise they’re going to be getting a lot of messages from confused customers.

Easy to use but no immediate results and unclear instructions
This teeth whitener system is a new one for me â Iâve never seen light-based whitening kits for home use before! Itâs pretty easy to use. It comes with three tubes of whitening gel, which work a little like some lip glosses Iâve had in the past â you twist the bottom and the gel squeezes out through the brush at the top. You paint this on your teeth, pop the tray in your mouth, and turn it on. It can do blue (15 minutes) or red and blue (10 minutes). The manual doesnât really indicate which is better, or why thereâs a time difference â red and blue is supposed to help with gums? But otherwise, information is very lacking. The device is super easy to turn on (too easy, really â I ended up cycling through the colors multiple times while removing it from the box and putting it in my mouth). Itâs easy to charge, too, with a little magnetic USB charging cable (but you need to provide the plug). My teeth were at a 2-3 (top) and 3-4 (bottom) based on their little included color chart, and after a few uses, I havenât seen a change. No problems with tooth sensitivity so far, so that’s good. The instructions don’t clearly indicate how often to use it or how many times you need to use it before seeing results. Iâve had a couple of colds since getting it, so I havenât been able to use it as much as I hoped: the tray pretty much prevents you from breathing through your mouth, and if your nose is stuffed up, itâs impossible to use. Iâll keep using it and update if I get noticeable changes.
