How to Burn California White Sage
For a total cleansing of your home, open all of your doors and windows of the space to be cleared. You are creating an exit point for old energies. Use a long-handled lighter, candle, or match stick to light the herbs till it begins to smoke. Once you see a flame, put out the fire so that the herb is smoldering, not burning. Allow the smudge herbs to smolder till the smoke circles in the air.

Starting at the lowest level of your house, light the smudge and walk around the perimeter of the rooms, paying close attention to the corners and areas behind doors. California White Sage, this was more of an impulse purchase as I was looking for copper incense bowls. it almost reminds me of a Christmas tree perhaps? pine? or maybe that was my imagination. it’s a vaguely familiar scent, also not what I expected either. I am sure, like tastes, scents depend on the person. in my own opinion I would say it is not a bad or harsh smell at all. it does have a strong smell. didn’t knock me over. creates tons of smoke. I put it in the window to ease up on the smoke and after about 10 minutes I checked and it had went out. not sure if the wind blowing effected it. probably is my guess.in the video I cut one stick in half. FYI, it will make a mess (forgot to mention this). flakes basically made a small mess so might want to cut it in a sink or make sure it’s somewhere you can wipe or sweep up.I did read their website page which is recommended instructions for burning. that seemed more like instructions for “smudging” which of course have seen on TV/Movies but other than am not familiar in the least with and not why I purchased. was expecting instructions on actual burning mechanics. if they were there I missed them.not sure what else to say other than I would try the blue sage, any others sage or incense bundles, and the incense wood sticks (forgot their name. a lot of it is Santo something or other)edit (12/15/19): update – after having used this more I feel it would be helpful to share some more information. as a bundle, even in a half bundle, sage does not get to smoldering easily with just matches. you will waste a lot of matches so my guess is a gas grill lighter stick or even a lighter/zippo would make for easier lighting. I stated above I thought the open window blew out the sage but I do not feel that is the case anymore. I have attempted to light one half of a stick multiple times now and got it smoking really nice but it has never completely smoldered the entire half. every time it has burned out. might be a plus or minus but it’s info. once you do get it smoldering, even partially, it will fill quite a large area with the scent. broken up into free pieces they appear to burn much more easy tho I have yet to just trying burning a large pile of free sage.

First time sage buyer/smudge experience
Ok, so my review is based off of my very limited experience with THIS sage. I purchased it because my little one had claimed to see a “shadow” behind me, and she was frightened. I also felt some negativity in the home. (My own negative thoughts, husband and I arguing, etc.). I spoke with someone who is spiritual, and in fact a legitimate psychic and she recommended that I cleanse my home by smudging. You can Google how to smudge, there’s tons of articles in what and how to do it!The Product: You get three sticks, others have stated they are quite small, however, I don’t believe you need to burn entire sticks for smudging (even my spiritual friend said it was not necessary). I burned probably 1/4 if not less, of one stick in a ritual of cleansing myself first, then my apartment. If you have a large home, I supposed one stick is just fine, probably still more than enough.I have NO IDEA what sage is supposed to smell like, but I will say this stuff smells okay at first, but then I worried what would my neighbors think of me! It totally smelled like pot to me!! (Not that I frown upon pot users, however my little one was at home with me! ). Despite using only 1/4, it probably was too much because my apartment smelled like burned herbs for an entire day. It lingered longer in my bedroom. I did not enjoy the smell at all…but I didn’t care too much because this wasn’t a ritual I did for fun or to make my home smell delicious. I did this for a very specific reason .The experience: My little one has not reported seeing anything else in the home, and I honestly have to say that I do feel more at ease mentally. I am calmer at home, I don’t feel as much anger. I don’t know if this is placebo effect or what, but I will say that after praying and doing the ritual I have a sense of peace in my home.Overall, my intention was to get peace in my home and rid my place of any lingering negativity and i accomplished it using this product.

Who bundled these, shame, shame, shame
I have ordered these in the past and left a great review, was very happy with product. So upon reordering I did not bother reading the newest reviews, I should have.Whoever bundled these should be ashamed.When bundling Sage the sticks need to all go in the same direction. With these some are upside down.So if you try to burn, they will not stay lit and the smell of burning stick is not pleasant.You have 2 choices – take the bundle apart and rearrange the sticks so they are go in the same direction, then retie. And keep in mind doing that will cause you to end up with much smaller bundles as much of the sage leaves will break off.Or you can just break off sage leaves from the original bundle and burn them.So for those of you who are finding these wont stay lit or you don’t like the scent, it is likely due to the issue of you are burning sticks because of the poor bundling.After placing 3 or 4 past orders with this company, I will be looking for a new supplier.
