Good SPF 50 Mineral Sunscreen for FACE! Love it!
I saw this product @ a local store one day while shopping, scanned the barcode w/ my Amazon app & found it available on Subscribe & Save for $5 less! I love when that happens! ðI already knew I liked the âalba botanicaâ brand, so I felt fairly certain it would be a good purchase & I was not wrong!Iâm very concerned about putting chemicals on my skin (Fun Fact: we absorb a large percentage of stuff we topically apply to our skin & it ends up in our bloodstream! Yay!)So I prefer mineral sunscreens & I always check the EWG list – this one rates as SAFE.My husband & I have to spend a lot of time in the sun for work, and both have VERY fair skin. Although we wear as much UPF 50+ clothing as possible, itâs hard to keep all of your skin covered all of the time. Plus it gets HOT ð¥µSo far Iâve been happy w/ this one.In years past we bought Ethical Zinc (which we loved – itâs completely safe, smells like Vanilla, has very few ingredients, and feels more like good skincare than a typical sunscreen) but I recently realized their price went up by more than twice what it was before! So, finding an alternative saves us money, and Iâm happy about that. This one doesnât seem to have a scent & feels pretty good on my skin. I was able to apply it & then apply a non-SPF foundation over it w/ no problems (just wait a few min first if U have time & also use a setting spray after). A primer beforehand might be useful, but I havenât tried that yetâ¦

Great coverage and minimal to no white cast
As a medium brown Filipino guy, this mineral sunscreen goes on nicely. Now at first, it does leave a noticeable white cast. But after rubbing it in circular motions for a minute or so, it blends in with my skin just fine. After waiting the recommended 15 minutes before sun exposure, any hint of the white cast is completely unnoticeable. Even when reapplying 2 hours later, as long as you rub it in well, it absorbs into the skin just fine. The texture and consistency is not chalking or gritty, but rather itâs smooth and silky and it doesnât feel like Iâm wearing sunscreen. I really appreciate some additional active ingredients like Niacinamide, Vitamen E, and Squalene that help moisturize the skin. So if youâre looking for a more minimalist skin care routine, you can use this without needing a face moisturizer before hand. So far, Iâve had no break outs or any negative reactions, but do be aware it does have niacinamide if youâre sensitive to that particular active. I also love that itâs water resistant and doesnât sting or burn the eyes when I sweat. This will definitely be a repeat purchase throughout the year.

Not As Great As Expected
I have been looking for an organic, chemical free, mineral based with no bad ingredients which potentially cause cancer. Purchased this and have been using it for the last few weeks. First i noticed a slight smell( to be fair i am really smell sensitive) It goes away pretty quickly but wanted to mention that. In addition, when applying the lotion, it smears, like itâs wet and goes on with a white cast. It sticks to parts of my face and i have to work at rubbing it all in. Once itâs on, itâs fine, though. I have been reapplying every few hours ( Iâm in Florida) so I canât speak to its effectiveness yet. Iâm going to keep looking around for another option.

No white cast, can be under makeup
I love this face sunscreen. I have been using this one all week, and I tried it under makeup yesterday in the heat, and it didn’t change the texture of my makeup at all. I used to use the Biossance mineral face sunscreen for years until this summer when they discontinued it due to it causing rashes in some cases. I was devastated, but also concerned that it was the culprit behind my redness in my cheeks this whole time. I only liked it because it blended into your skin flawlessly to go under makeup. Now, I have a great replacement.I tried the cetaphil mineral face lotion, and it left a white cast. I tried the aveeno mineral face sunscreen and it was even more while and chalky. It made me feel scaly. I even tried the Oars and Alps mineral face lotion with jojoba oil, and that one left me with a white cast worse than all of them. For reference, I am pale, and I use self tan lotion, but these other mineral sunscreens made me look chalky. I also had my partner use all of these products, hopeful that they might work differently on other skintypes. I’m fair and acne prone, and my partner is darker in complexion with dry skin. I looked well blended compared to how ghostly he was. I was especially surprised because Oars and Alps was marketed toward outdoorsy men, and marketed as moisturizing with the jojoba oil. He and I both found the Oars + Alps products to be greasy, sticky, white, and transferable to clothes and anything else you touch. This alba lotion is in too small of packaging, and takes longer to apply than spray sunscreens, but it feels the best, looks the best, and especially I’m impressed with the face lotion.

Another Manufacturer Sleazes Out
I have used this product for years after doing extensive research to find a sunscreen for my face that has the least chemicals but doesn’t leave me looking like a clown. In fact, I have been so happy with it, that I may have left a great review on it. That was then, this is now. Imagine my surprise & disgust to find my latest purchase completely changed. They have added so much water to it that when you put it on your face it is like you put it on wet skin. The white mineral base smears into patches that are impossible to rub in without major effort (your future plastic surgeon will be cheering this development, yes?$$$), because the original oil like composition of the product doesn’t mix with all the water it now contains. I can’t imagine even a professional clown would be able to make this work…..I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am SO DONE with the current trend of manufacturers of every ilk sneaking, sleazing, making things smaller, changing ingredients, hoping we’re too stupid or addicted to their stuff to care….I can’t wait for the backlash which certainly should come…..:)
